Artist Profile: Fran Beallor

Artist Profile: Fran Beallor - as part of the series on arts by GeoBeats. My name is Fran Beallor and I am a representational artist living in New York City. I do my paintings in oil and water color and I also like to do printmaking. I have done etchings, lithographs and serigraph. I do still lives and portraits, figure painting, cityscapes and interior scenes, and sometimes I put them altogether into one piece. I grew up in New York City, the art capital of the world, surrounded by art. My family was very culturally oriented and when it came time to choose a profession, I knew I wanted to do art. Instead of going the typical MSA route, I decided that I wanted an apprenticeship. I was lucky enough to find two masters to do apprenticeships with. The first I found when I was 14 and his name was August Moska and I studied drawing with him in his studio in the Bronx here in New York City. Later, when I decided I was ready to study painting, I found a master that I could study painting with. His name was Charles Fall and it was not heated and in the winter we had be wearing our coats and our gloves and we had be shivering but I had be standing behind him watching him paint and working on my own canvases and that was an amazing way to learn. From a very early age, I was creating art and creating images that were compelling and people responded to them, so really you, my audience, are the most inspiring part of being an artist. When I create a piece and I get a reaction from it ...
